COMPUTER SCIENCE & ENGINEERING (CSE)

MESSAGE FROM HOD

DR. T JOHN PETER

HOD CSE

The need for professionals with a background of Computer Science & Engineering is always on the rise. Those with problem solving skills are the ones in demand. Professionals with these skills are sure to land up with successful careers in the years to come. The Department of Computer Science and Engineering will thus cater to the above needs by providing with theoretical and practical knowledge and with a goal to equip the students face the vast world of technology.

The Department of Computer Science & Engineering of the Sambhram Institute of Technology is to provide the opportunity for our students to develop a firm foundation in mathematics, science, and design methodology applied to the disciplines of Computer Science & Engineering.

We believe that student opportunities and experiences should lead to an appreciation of the holistic development of individual. And finally, an objective is to pass on to our students our passion for what we do, and to have the students comprehend that we also desire to continue to learn.

TEACHING - LEARNING PROCESS

Teaching is an active process in which one person shares information with others to provide them with the information to improve as an individual. Learning is the process of assimilating information with a resultant improvement as an individual. The Teaching-learning process is a planned interaction that promotes progress in an individual that is not a result of natural growth or natural maturation or coincidence.

Objective of Teaching Learning Process is to setting out the intention in providing the degree programme or course in terms of the scope of the subject, and the overall learning outcomes sought. University designs the course according to present industrial requirements. To meet the industrial requirements and increases the competency in the student communities we are following advanced Teaching Learning process. We adapt an advanced Learning process which incorporates the faculties to prepare power point presentation, pedagogical methods with analogies. To improve the quality of our young faculties Department organize Faculty Development Program and sending the faculties to attend FDP organized in industries such as Infosys, Wipro and other Universities and colleges. Teaching and Learning are the two interconnected processes in imparting quality education. Learning follows teaching and teaching follows learning. Stronger the teaching learning process, stronger the quality education. Department of Computer Science & Engg has its own unique teaching learning process. The objective of this teaching learning process is to strengthen student’s overall skills and to get good university results. Thus, the process enables students to be industry ready. Teaching learning process begins when the academic year starts, to strengthen the student learning abilities, the students are divided into groups. Each group consists of 15-20 students guarded by a faculty member know as proctor-ship. The faculty member interacts with assigned student group at regular intervals and records student details like feedback, attendance, and learning problems. The proctor faculty member takes personal care to improve the student’s skill and learning abilities. To improve their communication skills and confidence level, they are provided with a platform to give presentations, participate in group discussions and debates. Thus, the department has been showing tremendous results in the university examinations . Also, it has been producing university rank holders, being one among the best colleges in every discipline. Also, department invites Industry experts and academicians to impart knowledge on emerging technologies and industry trends.

Department regularly sending our young faculty member for faculty empowerment programs conducted in reputed industries and universities. Many of our faculty members attended Mission 10x program conducted by WIPRO Technologies in our college campus and in their campus in electronic city, Bangalore. Our faculty members undergone training conducted by INFOSYS in Mysore INFOSYS campus. In addition Department regularly conducting Faculty Development programs and workshops on recent advanced technologies.

The students face with varied problems in their tight schedule and it becomes important that proper stream lining of the students is essential for a successful society. In this aspect proctorship plays a major role. Each faculty has a few students allocated under his care with and the students can discuss all matters including academics with their proctors. The proctors meet their students every week and give counselling and guidance so that the performance of the students is monitored periodically. Parent teacher meeting is organized every month after the Internal Assessment so that parents meet the teachers and have a one to one discussion and the problem area to be addressed is identified.

To enhance the technical knowledge of the students and to provide an exposure to the unconvential Machining process, a couple of Industrial visits were arranged for the students to IIHT, Bangalore. Which provided clear idea to the students about the hardware & networking concepts which is required to develop their skills for the current IT Industry.

The Department has started Research Center in the Academic year 2012-13, Approved by VTU, Belgaum and Accredited by NBA. Various research activities are carried out by faculty members and student community. And also faculty members from our institutes and others have been enrolled for Ph.D Program under our research center. For more Research activities details kindly visit our website.

Short Term Goals

“PRATYUSHA” Forum: Embarking on a Journey from Darkness to Light, a student forum.

The “PRATYUSHA” forum, fondly known as a guiding light, was established in 2009, marked by its inaugural ceremony graced by the presence of Dr. Prabhu Kumar, the esteemed Principal of Acharya Institute of Technology, Bangalore. The very essence of “Pratyusha” encapsulates a profound meaning – a voyage from obscurity towards illumination. Year after year, this departmental forum orchestrates a medley of technical and non-technical events that resonate with this illuminating journey.

In the realm of technology, “Pratyusha” offers a diverse array of events. Technical enthusiasts gather for seminars, workshops, quizzes, and debugging competitions, fostering an environment of continuous learning and innovation. These activities not only bolster participants’ knowledge but also ignite their problem-solving acumen, all of which are invaluable attributes in the modern professional landscape.

Simultaneously, the forum recognizes the significance of non-technical facets of personal and professional development. Cultural programs and sporting events stand as vibrant threads woven into the fabric of “Pratyusha.” These activities not only infuse a sense of camaraderie but also nurture qualities like teamwork, creativity, and resilience.

The overarching objective of “Pratyusha” is to sculpt well-rounded individuals poised for success in the real world. By providing a platform for these events, the forum empowers students to develop practical skills, ranging from effective communication to critical thinking. Armed with newfound confidence, participants are better equipped to confront the challenges that lie ahead, including various interview scenarios and competitive situations.

A pivotal role within “Pratyusha” is reserved for the Student President, an individual who exemplifies excellence in both academic pursuits and extracurricular undertakings. This prestigious position not only acknowledges scholastic achievements but also underscores the importance of holistic development, where leadership, empathy, and the ability to inspire others converge.

In summation, “Pratyusha” is more than a forum; it’s a transformative journey. It encapsulates the spirit of progress and the pursuit of knowledge, equipping students with the tools they need to navigate the complexities of the world beyond academia. Through its myriad activities, “Pratyusha” kindles the flames of ambition, fostering a community that continuously strives to move from darkness towards a brighter, more enlightened future.
